World of Maths Incursion

Week 4 Term 1 2023

Sometimes the questions are complicated, and the answers are simple.
— Dr. Seuss

Last week, our Upper Primary students in Years 4 to 6 were treated to exciting and interactive Mathematics workshop sessions with the travelling World of Maths show. Founded in 1990, World of Maths seeks to engage students in hands-on Maths activities that encourage problem-solving and real-world learning, while also using all their senses to develop solutions to problems by listening, watching, reading, discussing and manipulating ideas with their hands. The World of Maths workshops further complement our vibrant Numeracy program at Orana, which focuses on student collaboration, hands-on learning, independent thinking and creative problem-solving.

Our Upper Primary students did a wonderful job of being respectful participants, following instructions from the workshop instructor and collaborating with their peers to complete each station throughout their session. A highlight was a comment from a Year 4 student who stated, “There is so much Maths in this room, I had no idea it would be so fun!” We look forward to welcoming the World of Maths team back to Orana in 2024.
