Year 7 Celebrates Harmony Day

Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity, inclusiveness, and respect for all people.

In schools, Harmony Day is often marked through activities that help students such as:

  • Learning about different cultures and traditions
  • Develop respect and empathy for others
  • Build a sense of inclusion and community
  • Reflect on their own identity and heritage

The message of Harmony Day is simple: “Everyone belongs.”

This year, Year 7 students explored these values through a hands-on learning experience by preparing a variety of cultural dishes. Each dish was presented on beautifully decorated tables, accompanied by information about the country of origin and its culinary traditions.

Students proudly shared their work with the school community, offering samples of meals they had made for others to enjoy. The range of dishes reflected a rich diversity of cultures, including South Korea, Japan, Mexico, France, England, and Iceland. This activity supported students in developing an appreciation for global traditions while fostering confidence, collaboration, and a sense of shared community.

A sincere thank you to Ellie Harrison (PD/H/PE Teacher & Year 9 Guardian) and all who contributed to making the day such a meaningful success.
