A musical invitation

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s lovely to be in our new Music Centre and we would like to invite interested students from Class 4 to 12 to be part of Orana’s music community. There are several ways to do this!

CO-CURRICULAR MUSIC GROUPS

HS Performance Group – Thursday Rehearsal 8am in new Music centre “Ironbark”

HS Performance Group is Orana’s flagship orchestra, and they play at most school events and concerts. It is open to HS and SC students who have good music-reading skills and are confident on their chosen instrument. If you are interested, email Jenny on jennifer.higgs@oranaschool.com or come along to a rehearsal to check it out.

HS Choir – Friday lunchtime rehearsal in new Music Centre ‘Ironbark”

Come along and enjoy extending your singing skills in this dedicated but light-hearted group. HS Choir performs at concerts and for events and supports Orana’s extensive concert programme. Repertoire is very varied and vocal skills will be challenged in a friendly atmosphere! If interested, email Sarah on sarah.berger-alexander@oranaschool.com or come along at lunchtime on Friday.

Twilight Concerts – once per term. Term 1 Twilight concert will be Friday 5/4 in Overture Hall 5.45 to 6.45pm.

HS Students are invited to register interest in performing solo (for HS students) or in small groups at our Twilight Concert series. These happen on Fridays from 5.45 to 6.45 in Overture, and usually feature some of the Performance Groups, but we always like to include one or two soloists. If you are interested in playing, please let Jenny, Sarah or Maia know asap.

Volos (Folk- based music group) – rehearses Wednesday lunchtimes

This group will focus on building performance skills for beginner level players, particularly in Classes 5 to 8. HS students are welcome to come and join in as participants and leaders. If you are interested, please come on Wednesday at lunchtime to the new Music centre.

PERIPATETIC LESSONS

At Orana students are able to take private lessons during the school day in our new, purpose-built facilities. Lessons are provided by experienced, positive teachers who visit the school each week. Lessons are tailored to the needs of the individual child. Peripatetic music lessons incur an extra cost (usually around $45 to $50 per lesson). This is billed to parents directly by the peripatetic teacher.

We are happy to announce that peripatetic music teachers at the school now offer lessons in violin, viola, cello, piano, singing and recorder. Throughout the year we hope to add to this list. Our newest  peripatetic teacher is Rose Holcombe, a very experienced pianist and teacher, who has accompanied Orana’s students at concerts for many years.

Private lessons are a wonderful way for students to improve their physical performance skills.  As their instrumental technique increases, students are able to use music to express emotion and share with others. Individual peripatetic instrument lessons can be a valuable support for many students.

If you would like to enrol your child for individual peripatetic lessons, please email Maia on maia.harrison@oranaschool.com

Kind Regards

Maia
