Orana Steiner School

Orana Steiner School inspires students to grow into confident, capable, truthful and creative human beings. It provides children with the balance between academic and creative; discipline and freedom; and individual and social development. This holistic approach to education nurtures the development of the whole child as they learn and mature.

The curriculum at Orana provides a solid foundation in academic subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Geography and History, and offers a dedicated program of Technology, the Arts, and Health and Physical Education.

Orana’s Vision

Our Vision is to educate and inspire students to achieve their best, work creatively and become aware of themselves as individuals who will contribute positively to global social change.

To achieve our Vision, we follow our Guiding Principles:

  • Encourage a lifelong love of learning
  • Respect the growing child and their stages of development
  • Provide a supportive environment for spiritual development
  • Strive for a balance between academic, artistic and practical learning experiences
  • Foster an understanding of the human being as informed by Rudolf Steiner
  • Build self-confidence in students
  • Inspire a healthy respect for and responsibility toward each other and the environment.

Our History

Founded in 1981 and set within unique and natural surroundings, Orana Steiner School now has 640 students enrolled from Pre-school to Year 12 and is an independent, co-educational and non-denominational school in Weston, Canberra.

Orana’s educational philosophy is inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian-born scientist, philosopher, artist and educator. The first Steiner school was established in Germany in 1919, and now there are over 1,300 schools worldwide who have adopted this schooling method.
