Netball Gala Day

Last week we were able to support a group of students at the Year 9/10 Girls Netball Gala Day. Our students were wonderfully supported by Isabella Scott (far left in photo) through a busy day, with many close games. Overall, our students demonstrated great positivity with each other, and their opposing teams, which culminated in a breakthrough win in their final game of the day.

Additional highlights include Charlotte (Class 10) representing our school through her work umpiring for most of the Gala Day as each school needed to supply a teacher supervisor and an umpire. It was also wonderful to hear of multiple team-mates in the Orana Netball Team who, without any prompting, stepped up to umpire later in the day to allow Charlotte some game time.

The Orana Game Development Team

Four Year 10 students were recently awarded participation certificates for their submission to the Australian STEM Video Game Challenge. Their creativity and coding skills shone through as they explored game development and design. Inspired by this experience, the students are eager to expand their game development team at Orana, bringing in fresh ideas and collaboration. With newfound enthusiasm and ambition, they are already setting their sights on achieving even greater success in next year’s Challenge.

The winter is for snowboarding

Zaffa has been participating in the full-time Perisher Winter Sports snowboarding program. This is the fourth year he has participated. He has also been fortunate to do two other intensives in the northern hemisphere in the past two years.

Zaffa trains 5 days a week with a range of coaches. He is primarily a “park/slopestyle” snowboarder (rails and large jumps)  but he also competes in “freeride” – where runs are on ungroomed snow over natural features. Zaffa now competes primarily in under 18 and under 19 events (termed “junior” in the snow sports world).

Zaffa won the junior NSW and ACT interschools snowboard slopestyle (competing as Orana’s only representative). He won the Thredbo junior Thredbo snowboard Battle of the Bluff (a freeride event). He also won the Perisher junior rail jam (snowboard – tricks on rails). Well done Zaffa for such a series of major achievements.
