Anzac Day School Assembly

Term 2 for the High School began with a short Anzac Day Assembly in The Overture. Years 5 and 6 were also invited. One reason for the Assembly on Monday was to explain why there was a Public Holiday so soon after the Easter Break. Students learned about the origins of the word Anzac and how it evolved from being a military acronym to a name. Students were given an overview of the start of the Gallipoli Campaign on 25th April 1915, and the reasons why this date has become such an important part of the remembrance of soldiers who represented Australia in all wars to this day. The origins of the iconic Slouch Hat were also shared with the students. The Assembly concluded with the traditional one minute’s silence, after which students moved to their Main Lesson classes.
