Class 3 Excursion

At a time when the children are beginning to feel separated from the world, they need to experience the deep interconnections between all realms of life. During our Farming and Gardening Main Lesson last term, the children were involved in stories of daily and seasonal life on a farm. They have experienced the work of the human being in harmony with the earth, its landscape, its seasons, the plants and animals.

Our excursions to Ingelara Farm have offered real experiences of growing vegetables and feeding the soil, allowing the children to become more conscious of the interdependence of geography, history, land use and economic life. These experiences now will form the basis for work later in their schooling on ecology and the economy.

The visit this week allowed the children to recognise composting organic matter is a fundamental part of biodynamics, it is an effective way to return the goodness and fertility back into the soil that was lost during the growing season. It helps maintain the cycle of fertility by recycling nutrients.
