This term, Class 5 has been diving into the myths and culture of Ancient India. We have been blessed to have the expert tuition of ex-Orana teacher Dharini Ganesan Raju to help us to stage a dance and cultural feast. The bharatanatyam dance presentation we have been rehearsing is intricate, and interwoven with the sounds and stories of a village waiting for rain, recalling Vishnu’s many incarnations.
We have combined this stunning presentation with Indian food and cultural activities assisted by a team of motivated parents. This sort of learning is visceral and experiential, and builds a sense of shared destiny and community within the students and parent body, as well as awakening a deep respect for the wonderful culture of India that gave rise to the magnificent epics of the Ramayana and Mahabharata that we study in class.
