SILVER HIKE
As much as we all love an adventure in rain, hail or shine, there’s been a lot more rain and hail in recent years, and this often makes camp planning a particular challenge. The proposed Silver Hike in Namadgi National Park recently saw a last-minute change to a less remote location due to the risk of flooding.
We made the decision to hike as far as we could in three days, from the South of Canberra (Tuggeranong Hill) to the North, ending at Mt Majura. Eleven students braved the forecast of heavy rain and set off across the hills of suburbia, traversing Urambi and Cooleman Ridge, over Dairy Farmers Hill and Black Mountain, around Lake Burley Griffin to Parliament House, and finally up Mt Ainslie and Majura. At over 60km in total, this was an epic journey that hopefully gave us all a better appreciation for the ups and downs of the Canberra landscape!
Well done to all the students who have achieved their Bronze Awards in 2022, and those who are aiming to complete Silver by the end of this term. It takes drive and perseverance to achieve these awards, and we congratulate you on pushing beyond your comfort zone and pursuing new experiences and challenges.
