Duke of Edinburgh Hikes

Bronze

As part of their Duke of Edinburgh program, two groups of students hiked around the outskirts of Canberra on their Bronze hike. As part of the challenge, the hikers had to navigate themselves along the route.

One group of students walked from Mulligan’s Flat to Innabaanya Girl Guide’s camp (near Majura Pkwy), camped the night, then walked to Aranda Bushland the next day, taking in notable peaks on their way. The other group hiked it in the reverse order.

We also had past students, Indigo and Hannah Pearce (and her husband Jacky) join as extra volunteers.

Silver and Gold

Four Senior College students braved the cold weather to undertake a four day hike in the Blue Mountains last weekend. This hike was planned and run by the students themselves, for their Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards. They started in Katoomba, walking along the spectacular cliff pathways, discovering waterfalls and ending up at the Three Sisters.

The next three days were spent hiking the iconic 6 Foot Track to Jenolan Caves, where they camped overnight at Black Range Campground on the Cox’s River. Rivers were crossed, rocky cliff paths scrambled down, imposing hills were conquered… This was a challenging trek and the students showed excellent teamwork, leadership and resilience in setting and achieving their goals each day.
