Early Childhood

When one reflects on Easter most would agree it is a time spent with family. For those of Christian faith it is a significant time in the calendar. For the commercial world it has become a time of chocolate bunnies or hares, hot cross buns and merchandise to be purchased. Within Steiner education there is a connection to this spiritual world that does not affiliate itself with any religion or commercialism but it is a deeper connection to creation itself. As our adult lives become busier and busier it is even more important now to turn to the sanctity of childhood, in the here and now.

“Know you what it is to be a child? It is to be something very different from the (adult) of today. It is to believe in love, to believe in loveliness, to believe in belief: it is to be so little that the elves can reach to whisper in your ear: it is to turn pumpkins into coaches, and mice into horses, lowness into loftiness, and nothing into everything, for each child has its fairy godmother in its soul.”

Francis Thompson

Over this past Term the children in Early Childhood continue to surprise us as they learn to believe in themselves, to love one another, to make magic out of nothing and to enjoy the here and now of childhood. We have seen children become resilient through setbacks, to make new friends and invite others to play, to master something for the first time and feel the sense of achievement that comes from that, to dance, to play, to laugh, to cry, to find their voice and to feel a real sense of belonging to their school community.

As we start to mark the transition to the cooler months and the change that brings we too have a change in Early Childhood.  Petra Cristofaro is leaving to teach interstate, a move that will challenge and reward her in this season of her life. We welcome Gillian Davis and Georgia Carmichael who will replace Petra. Both teachers bring a wealth of experience and we are looking forward to welcoming them to our Early Childhood community.

Over the holiday break we hope you too find time to find the magic and slow down and enjoy time with those that you love and we look forward to welcoming you all back next term.
