From the pool to the field – Sporting achievements at Orana

Touch Football

The 7/8 Boys South Touch Football team had a fantastic day representing Orana early Term 1, making the most of the opportunity to get out and compete. The team played well together, making it to the semi-finals and scoring some great tries along the way. A special mention goes to Ellie and Billy, for their dedication in running trials and training sessions, and taking the team out. Their commitment and enthusiasm were appreciated by all. We also had Daniel (Year 12) doing a great job being a referee, with the competition coordinator commending his performance. Well done to all involved!

Swimming South/Weston Regionals

Last term, students from Year 5 to Year 10 have showcased their swimming talents at the Swimming Regionals. Each swimmer put forth an outstanding effort in their events. Many excelled by securing first place in their heats, which others achieved impressive personal bests, demonstrating their dedication and hard work in the pool. Whether it was shaving seconds off their time or pushing through challenges to complete their races, all our swimmer should be incredibly proud of their achievements. A huge congratulations to all our Orana swimmers for their remarkable performances and for representing the school with such pride and determination. You did an amazing job!

Our Athletics Carnival was a day filled with energy, excitement, and outstanding performances from our students. It was incredible to see all students participating with such enthusiasm, giving their best, and supporting each other throughout the event. A special shout out to the teachers and staff who worked tirelessly to make the day run smoothly and create such a fun and engaging atmosphere for everyone. We also want to recognize our Senior College students, who truly led the way with their sportsmanship and leadership. Their spirit was contagious and set the tone for the day. The event culminated in a thrilling element relay race, which brought a real sense of excitement and camaraderie.

Demonstrating unwavering focus and determination, Everett qualified for both the freestyle and backstroke events, showcasing his commitment to developing strength and skill in the pool. In the regional 50m freestyle, Everett secured a heat victory with an impressive time of 36.09 seconds. He continued to excel at the ACT Championships, winning his heat and achieving a personal best of 35.20 seconds, placing 14th out of 40 competitors. We extend our congratulations to Everett and appreciate the positive energy he brings to our school community.

It was a wonderful day for our school’s annual Cross-Country Carnival at Stromlo Forest Park. The sun emerged just in time for the races, and our students rose to the occasion with enthusiasm and determination. Their spirited efforts made the event a memorable highlight of the school year. A huge thank you to our dedicated teachers, staff, and senior students who ensured the day ran smoothly. Behind the scenes, our incredible admin, communications, and maintenance teams provided essential support to keep everything on track. Congratulations to all students who participated in the races and to those who cheered from the sidelines. Your energy and encouragement truly brought the event to life. It was a wonderful display of school spirit and community.

Extra-curricular Rowing

Last term, several Orana Steiner School students delivered outstanding performances at major rowing events in Canberra, showing their dedication and skill in the sport. At the ACT Championships, Mannon secured third place with her team in the Under 19 Schoolgirls Double Scull event. Additionally, she coxed Year 9 girls quad, comprising Lindsay, Ava, and Gaia, to a commendable third-place finish. Mannon also competed in a composite quad alongside Senior College student Maya, achieving fourth place in the schoolgirls open division. Maya and Ravi represented Orana in a sprint exhibition double scull race, which was attended by the Governer-General. These accomplishments highlight the students’ commitment to excellence in rowing.

Duke of Edinburgh Program

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (commonly known as ‘The Duke of Ed’) is a globally recognised youth development program that empowers young people aged 14–24 to explore their potential through a variety of activities. It offers a structured framework for personal growth, helping participants develop skills, build confidence, and experience adventure. We have observed keen interest from our students in the Duke of Ed program this year.
