From the Principal – Week 10, Term 2

Professional Learning

Staff have been working collaboratively together this week in a diverse range of topics, this has included work on curriculum, social emotional strategies, compliance and many other areas with the focus of all our work being child centred.

On Monday we were fortunate to have Dr Tom Brunzell join us again to present Module 2 on the Berry Street Education Model.

Dr Tom Brunzell (MST, EdM, PhD) has experience as a teacher, school leader, researcher and education advisor in New York City and Melbourne in Steiner and Waldorf schools. Currently he is the Director of Education at Berry Street. Tom presents internationally on topics of transforming school cultures, high expectations for differentiated instruction, trauma informed practice, wellbeing and the application of positive psychology, and effective school leadership. His research at the University of Melbourne Centre of Positive psychology investigates trauma-aware pedagogy, positive psychology, positive education and their impacts on workplace meaning.

During 2022 staff worked on Module 1, BODY, of this program. The focus was how to help our students regulate their stress response, de-escalate in school and classroom contexts and provide strategies for increased focus.

On Monday, Module 2 RELATIONSHIP, was our focus. We worked on building positive relational management strategies that promote on-task learning.

As a staff we will continue working and building on our learning from Tom. As we develop our programs across the remainder of the year, we will share components of our work with you.

Winter Break

We wish everyone a wonderful winter break. May everyone, rest, restore and rejuvenate over the coming weeks. Take care of one another and especially of yourself. We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 17th July.
