From the Principal – Week 2 Term 2

It has been wonderful to see our students settling into the new school term. Thank you again to our parents and carers for the important part you play in making sure this is a successful transition for everyone. Autumn is certainly here and we have seen some cooler weather this week. Please remember layers will be essential for the students at this time of the year.

Rhythm in Steiner Education

It’s important after a holiday break for students and even adults to establish strong rhythms and daily routines so as to enhance our well-being, which in turn flows to how we learn and retain learning. This theme runs strongly through our Steiner School Curriculum from Early Childhood to Year 12.

Rhythm can be described in many ways. It can be the breathing in and breathing out cycles that we do in our daily life for necessity. It can also be thought of as the natural cycle of the day, week, year and life. Building a daily rhythm that allows for interactive time and passive quiet time into our daily and weekly rhythms can provide a comforting form of certainty for individuals and for family members. Typically, it is when there is a lack of rhythm when we notice it most.

Travelling through our weeks with a known rhythm can eliminate some of the many queries and assists with preventing decision fatigue. With a daily predictable rhythm, you will be providing comfort and reassurance to your children, things to look forward to and the satisfaction of achieving tasks that need to be done. Obviously, there is still room for spontaneous activities, but those too can fit in within a predictable pattern.

What can you do as a family to incorporate this more in your home life to increase your family’s well-being?

Community

Although only two weeks into the term we have been fortunate to already have had a couple of community events for Class 5 to 12 students. We began our first day of Term with an ANZAC ceremony. Thank you to Lorna Fleetwood for the organization of this important acknowledgement in our Australian culture. On Wednesday, we once again were able to hold our annual Cross-Country carnival at Stromlo Forest. It was wonderful to see students striving to do their best, encouraging and supporting one another. Thank you to Mike Brady for his coordination of the event and to the many staff who assisted on the day, to make this possible.

Information Evenings

This week we have held our Senior College information evening. Next week we are holding our Primary School and High School information evenings. We welcome all community members to attend and join us. Our school will also be holding a stall at ‘The Little Burley Markets’ this Saturday from 9.00am until 1.30pm, showcasing work across the School from Early Childhood all the way through to Class 12. If you or your family and friends are looking for something to do please come and say hello and see what work we are show casing.
