Dear families, students and friends.
Welcome to the 2022 school year. A particular welcome to new students and families who have joined us this year, we hope the transition to Orana has been a pleasant experience. Years 7 and 8 students deserve a special mention for the maturity, enthusiasm and sense of fun that they have brought to their early days as High School students. The staff have been delighted with the willing spirit and have high hopes for their success. I’m sure, although separated at this time from other year groups, that the rest of the High School wishes them every success and enjoyment for the school year.
We are beginning the final week of the first Main Lesson across all year groups. As I have been wandering across the School into classrooms, I have been impressed with the student engagement and inquisitive questions. All of Year 7 have been studying the Middle Ages, Year 8 Humanities, Year 9 Science, Year 10 Poetry, Year 11 Photography and Year 12 Fractals. Information for these Main Lessons will be sent through in a report format on Schoolbox.
Congratulations to the following Orana students who were recently selected in the ACT School Rowing teams:
Paloma Padovan – ACT Girls 1st 8
Eleanor Johnstone – ACT Girls 2nd 8
Felix Burns Jansen – ACT Boys 2nd 8
Due to COVID-19 restrictions in school settings, the students will be unable to compete against other states this year. It’s evident that these students’ selection is the result of the hard work and dedication throughout the last two years.
I would like to thank the many parents who have attended the year group meetings during the past two weeks via Zoom or in person. I hope you have a better understanding of what the first semester will look like for your children. The students have begun the year strongly and I look forward to seeing the Senior College parents next week for our Information Session.
Continue to be in touch with the High School Team if you require any further information or clarification.
