Orana Student Happenings

Duke of Ed Awards

The Duke of Edinburgh Award requires participants to spend their time developing their skills in a range of areas as well as undertake a number of Adventurous Journeys (usually referred to as hikes). Participants are expected to keep logs of their activities, write reports and liaise with the public in order to demonstrate what they have achieved over a significant time period.

Congratulations to Savannah, Immi and Ellie who have recently achieved their Bronze Awards.

Creativity for a special birthday

Cadence from Class 10 has channeled her creativity and skills into crafting a beautiful and meaningful piece of art from found and recycled materials. With her father’s birthday in mind, she thoughtfully designed this unique gift, blending beauty with practicality—a principle we encourage in all our students. Well done, Cadence! We’re certain your father will treasure this heartfelt creation.

Canberra Short Film Festival Entry

Congratulations to Lily Endres for the selection of her short film 1988 as a finalist in this year’s Canberra Short Film Festival. What makes this even more amazing is that 1988 was Lily’s first-time filmmaking, and she wrote, directed, and acted in the film!

The film itself is the product of Lily’s year-long Class 12 Project, and the story is set “from 1988 to modern times and follows the main character on her journey of discovering her mother’s past. What really happened in 1988?”

For the opportunity to enjoy a viewing of 1988 please see details via the Canberra Short Film Festival website – 1988 is screening on Wednesday 13 November.

If you would like to hear the story of how this film came about, please join us at the Class 12 Project Speeches (Friday 22 – Sunday 24 November) where our Class 12 students share their individual journeys through their personally selected year long projects.

Student work adds beauty to community

No matter what part of our wonderful campus you walk around, you won’t be far from a piece of art or work of one of our students. It is a privilege to be part of a community where not only is art valued, but our students are allowed and encouraged to participate by creating works that bring life, enjoyment and pride to our school. Here is a piece of work by Massi that uses found and recycled materials to create a visually appealing and practical ornamentation for a space that would otherwise look rather plain. Thankyou to the students for your creativity and for the teachers and leadership who foster and encourage this to happen.
