Primary School Wrap Up

The crossing of a threshold into a new space is traditionally symbolic of growth, maturity and excitement of the possibility of change. From the Kindergarten children preparing to move on to Year 1, to Year 3 students graduating to the Amphitheater and the Year 6 cohort ready to cross the bridge into the High School, Term 4 is a time of transition, change and resilience building as our students prepare for the next phase of their schooling.

Canberra summer has well and truly arrived, and with it comes the usual unpredictable combination of showers and blustery winds one day, and hot and sunny skies the next. The gardens are teeming with wildlife and new blossoms, and every day we see fresh opportunities for learning, playing and growth around the school. We also begin to welcome the Pre-School children into the Primary School as they make their first steps to transition into their new Kindergarten spaces ahead of next year.

Term 4, as always, has brought with it many exciting opportunities for students and staff to immerse themselves in the life of the school. Year 5 and 6 ventured out on their respective camps to Westwood Lodge and Jindabyne, while Year 3 recently headed back to Ingelara for another productive day out at the farm. The Dance Program, run by Susan Innis from Dance 4 Fitness, returned for Years 1 to 4 as part of our creative movement and dance program at Orana. It was a joy to witness the Kindergarten and Pre-School children enjoying Christmas nativity festivities with their respective class plays and puppet shows.

The Year 2 students were presented with their finished Gnomes that they have been diligently knitting for some time, Ursula congratulated them on their hard work and efforts. The skill shown in these Gnomes is very impressive and we are sure the children will treasure them for years to come.

I wish all the Early Childhood and Primary School students, teachers and families all the best for a safe and restorative Christmas break.

Year 2's final fluffy main lesson

Year 2 hatched their own chicks in the classroom using an incubator and a brooding box.

The children learnt about the life cycle of chickens and watched parts of the cycle unfold first hand!

The chicks have all gone to live at Orana children’s homes and farms.
