Cross Country Carnival
Our Class 5 -12 students began the term with our annual Cross Country Carnival at Stromlo Forest Park. The weather was perfect for a Cross Country Carnival this year. It was wonderful to see students striving to do their best, encouraging and supporting one another and most importantly having fun. Thank you to the many staff who assisted on the day and our Senior College students, without your positivity these days do not exist.
The Championship cup for 2024 was awarded to Fire and the Spirit cup was awarded to Water.
Congratulations to the following age champions for 2024:
Veera and Everett (11 Years old), Isabella, Florence, and Ajax (12 Years old), Poppy and Tommy (13 Years old), Shari and Kiernan (14 Years old), Maya and Ben (15 Years old), Ruby and Jess (16 Years old) and Hanna (Senior Champion)
Relay for Life
A huge congratulations to the 16 Orana students who participated in the 2024 Relay for Life over the holidays! This is an overnight event, in which teams walk the track at the AIS for 24 hours, raising awareness and funds for cancer research, prevention and support through the Cancer Council.
While some of the students approached the relay as a challenge (special mention for Odin, who completed over 100km in 24 hours!), some approached it as an opportunity to walk some laps with friends and get to know their team members a little better – regardless of the approach, all the students took something valuable away from the experience.
This amazing team effort was organised and run by Class 12 student Nina, joined by students from Class 10 – 12. The team should be incredibly proud of their achievements, banding together to walk over 400km in total, and raising over $2000 for a wonderful cause. Thank you also to everyone who donated and supported the team!
Duke of Edinburgh Awards
Congratulations to the following students for achieving an Award through Duke of Edinburgh.
Bronze Award: Ben Kozokaro, Ana Soria-Soto, Maya Skocilas, Charlotte Knight, Anna Hewett, Judah Card and Izzy Whitaker.
Silver Award: Oliver Manning and Noah Batten
To achieve these Awards students need to undertake a certain number of hours in the areas of voluntary service, physical recreation and develop or improve a nominated skill. The students also need to partake in at least two hikes and write reports reflecting on these journeys.
Well Done to all the students.
Off to Nationals
Katherine Stewardson (Year 11) represented Orana at the Equestrian NSW State Interschool Championships 2024, 15th – 19th April in Sydney at the International Equestrian Centre
Katherine was competing in this championship at the highest level of dressage and won both of her events for the school.
As champion, she has now qualified for Nationals to be held in September 2024. Katherine and her horse, Flori, were a great team, performing very well on the day. It was a great pleasure for Katherine and Orana to have her represent our School in ‘States 2024’. This event means a great deal to all the riders who have trained hard over the years to represent both their school and their state.
