At Orana, as at the thousands of other Waldorf / Steiner Schools around the world, we recognise the importance of observing significant moments in childhood and celebrate these with rituals that bring meaning to our students’ lives.
Our school year begins with the traditional Rose Ceremony, celebrating the transition from Kindergarten to Year 1. This is a big step for students who are excited to be moving on, ready to learn and embrace new challenges as they enter this phase in their school journey. The mood is one of reverence; the children are aware of the significance of the event.
Led by their beloved Kindergarten teachers, the students walk to their new classroom, each carrying a beautiful rose. As they arrive at the door of their classroom, the students bid farewell to their Kindergarten teacher who has guided them through the previous year and greet their new teacher, presenting them with the rose, symbolising the growth and development the child will experience during the coming years.
