Textiles Technology

Textiles Technology in Class 7 and 8 is a 12-week program that rotates on trimesters and allows all students to experience the world of Textiles. Students have been engaged in a comprehensive learning experience that encompasses both practical application (“the knowing how”) and theoretical understanding (“the knowing that”). This dual approach ensures that our students not only acquire knowledge but also learn how to apply this knowledge to create solutions to needs or problems.

In Class 7, students embarked on a journey into the world of textiles and sewing. They learned to operate sewing machines, creating bags and pyjamas. But this rotation wasn’t just about textiles; it was a lesson in mathematics, precision, and sustainability. Students discovered that precise measurements and cuts are essential to crafting quality products. Moreover, they championed sustainability by making patchwork, quilted bags entirely from fabric scraps, reducing waste, practicing their cutting and sewing skills, and promoting creativity.

Class 8 students explored the fascinating realm of branding within the textiles and fashion world. They embraced the challenge of designing their own brands and applied these designs to bags they designed and made to package the hoodies they crafted. However, this rotation had an even more critical dimension – environmental awareness. The bags they created served as a powerful reminder of the harmful impact of plastic on the environment, as well as the need for reusable alternatives. Our students not only learned about textiles and fashion but also about their responsibility to the planet.

Both 7 and 8 students discovered the intricacies of working with different materials. They learned that constructing items with various fabrics requires specific techniques to preserve each material’s unique qualities. This hands-on experience broadened their knowledge of knits, woven, and construction methods, equipping them with invaluable skills and being an informed consumer.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Parents and Friends Association (P&F) for their generous support. Their purchase of a “MiScreen” digital screen maker empowered our students to create and print their logos. This technology offered a glimpse into the evolving world of digital design, showcasing how traditional and modern techniques can harmoniously coexist in education.
