A new term has begun, and the Primary School students have returned to school with lots of energy for work and play after their extended winter holiday break. We welcome many new students to the Primary School this term, some that arrived from lands far and wide only a few short weeks ago. A Canberra winter is something that takes some getting used to for those not used to it, but we are starting to see the first signs of warmer weather and buds of spring shooting up in the gardens around the school. Warmer layers, including beanies, jackets and gloves, are still recommended on the often very frosty mornings. Just a reminder that Sun Safe hats are back next week, from Tuesday 1 August.
This term, classes across the Primary School are busily preparing for class meetings and Learning Journeys, which are a wonderful way for parents and carers to share in their child’s learning across the year. Learning Journeys in particular showcase each student’s work or project, what they are most proud of and self-identified areas for improvement. Students in Classes 1 to 6 embrace the opportunity to share their work with their peers, parents and carers, and learn how to give and receive positive and constructive feedback to each other. It is also a window for parents and carers into the role of Specialist Teachers in the Primary classes and to showcase our unique Steiner curriculum. Please look out for information about your child’s Learning Journey in teacher newsletters and on Schoolbox.
Next week, we look forward to welcoming Pre-School families into the world of Kindergarten at Orana at the upcoming 2024 information evening on Wednesday 2 August from 6-7pm in the Kindergarten classrooms (Bluebell campus). Parents will be treated to short talks by the Kindergarten teachers about the curriculum, followed by hands-on and artistic learning experiences. We hope that all families interested in Kindergarten at Orana are able to attend. Please note this evening is for parents only.
I wish all the Primary School students an engaging and successful term ahead.
