Composting with Year 3

“Year 3 had a visit from biodynamic gardening guru Chris Boswell recently to create a biodynamic compost pile. Emma Kain also volunteered her time to manage building the compost.

Chris started the project by inviting students to connect their senses to the world around them and reflect on the importance of the sun, earth, and water in their ecosystem and explained that creating a compost pile is our way of giving back and feeding the plants that sustain us. The students rotated through five stations, working together to build the pile.

Students particularly enjoyed the cow poo mixing station and the water vortex station.

Chris’s enthusiasm for compost and biodynamics and his simple explanations meant that students were engaged and worked very hard to create a compost pile that will be used to feed future gardens at Weston Creek Orchard.
