Extra-Curricular Music
As we start a new semester, Orana’s extra-curricular music groups are looking forward to new repertoire, new challenges and new performance opportunities. Now is a good time to think of joining one of the available groups! There is no additional joining cost.
Primary School Choir – rehearses on Mondays from 3.10 to 4.00pm in the Gumnut music Room next to After school Care. This choir is for any student from classes 4 and 5. It is a session of light-hearted singing, warm-ups, skill building, especially for part singing and rounds, and performance preparation.
High School Choir – rehearses on Friday lunchtimes in Ironbark. This choir is for students from Classes 7 to 12. This choir is for committed singers who like to have fun and explore many styles of repertoire from medieval to modern and popular songs.
Primary School Volunteer Orchestra – rehearses Wednesdays from 8.30am to 9am in Ironbark. This orchestra is for students in Classes 5 and 6. This is for students in the middle years who have some skills on their instrument and would like to be part of a group that plays mostly folk-based music together for festivals, concerts and events.
High School Performance Group – rehearses from 8.00am to 8.40am on Thursdays in Ironbark. This flagship group is for High School students with established ability on their orchestral/ensemble instruments. Repertoire is drawn from many sources including popular, classical and movie themes.
If your child would like to participate in any of these activities, please email Maia, Sarah or Jenny for more information.
Peripatetic Music Lessons
There are a few vacancies for students who would like to learn cello, violin, piano, recorder, singing or flute. Please email maia.harrison@oranaschool.com for further information.
Term 3 Twilight Concert – Friday 30 August, 5.45pm to 7.00pm, Overture Hall
This will be a warm and inspiring evening’s entertainment from all our extra-curricular groups, and from some High School soloists. This is in the birthday week of the school, and all are welcome to come and celebrate Orana’s creative education with some uplifting musical performances.
