The Orana Athletics Carnival

Friday 8th of March saw Orana Steiner School take over Chapman Oval for our annual Athletics Carnival. The excitement was high as each element group had been energised in the days leading up to the carnival by our Senior College leaders.

The carnival started with the long-distance competitors completing some blistering 1500m races. These races showed lots of determination and house spirit to set up what was going to be a great day. The carnival got into full swing when the rest of the students arrived. House captains did a great job pumping up the house spirit and students started their rotations throughout the track, field and novelty events. These included 100m, 200m, 800m for track events and shot put, long jump, high jump, discus and the always popular javelin for field events. The most noise and laughs were definitely out of the novelties which included sack races, class relays and extremely competitive tug-o- war.

The canteen was chock full of poppers, zooper doopers and water and always had customers as students were looking to refuel and cool down on the warm day. Though the temps were high, the participation levels were higher, and the day wrapped up with a close finish in the 12 x 100m relay. This saw two students per class level represent their element group in a final race around the oval.

We finished the day celebrating the age champions as well as Earth taking out the Championship Cup and Fire taking out the Spirit Cup.

Congratulations to the following students who won age champions: Callum S, Veera P, Worthy P, Maja S, Silas W, Olivia K, Ample S, Shari G, Ben K, Maya S, Sanya K, Tom W, & Katya R.

A big thankyou to the site team for helping set up and pack down the carnival, the staff for running each event and the senior students for assisting and participating, making it a great day! Well done to all and onto the cross country in May.
